Art activity with seniors
Bethany Calgary (NW) is looking for anyone who enjoys connecting and interacting with seniors. The OMA (Opening Minds Through Art) program is an intergenerational art program for people living with dementia. Each volunteer is paired with one resident, who is the artist, to create beautiful pieces of abstract art. NO experience or talent is required. The program's goal is to build bridges across age and cognitive barriers through art. Support and guidance are provided by the program facilitators.
Certification or Education Required
Be responsible and patient, compassionate, and demonstrate professionalism.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
You will build your observation, communication, and people skills by working with seniors and staff. This is a great opportunity for people who enjoy talking with others, are interested in art therapy, want intergenerational experiences, or have a caring desire to help others in their community. It is a short-term program on these specific Wednesdays from 1:00 - 3:30 pm only: February 4 & 18, March 4 & 18, April 1, 8 & 29 and May 13.
