Become a Volunteer Mentor for a child/youth in Calgary
Ongoing
Hull Services partners with young people and families, building resilience today for a brighter tomorrow. The Mentors Matter program builds healthy connections between members of the community, youth and their families through professionally facilitated mentoring relationships. Training and supervision are provided. Mentors Matter is recruiting healthy and stable adult volunteers who are willing to: - Build a healthy relationship with a young person (1:1 Mentoring) or group of young people (Group Mentoring) connected to one of Hull’s therapeutic programs, through regular visits. - Role model healthy relationship skills, life skills and expose the young person to healthy activities, increasing positive community and cultural references and understanding. - Support a young person who has experienced adversity in life (trauma, mental health issues, loss, etc.) through a helping relationship. A one-year minimum overall commitment is expected, with weekly Mentor-Mentee visits of 1.5 - 2 hours in duration. All Mentor applicants must complete background checks including Police Check and Intervention Record Check. All background checks, training, and volunteer supervision is provided by the program. 1:1 Mentoring takes place at various locations in Calgary and surrounding area. 1:1 Mentors must have a valid Driver’s License and vehicle insurance, ability to drive and access to a reliable vehicle. Group Mentoring takes place inside of Hull programs with small groups of young people in a supervised setting.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Volunteer Mentors with Mentors Matter derive many benefits from mentoring a young person: - Personal growth and fulfillment, which increases self-awareness and skill development. - Strengthening interpersonal skills, which in turn leads to growth in personal and professional lives. - Leaving a Legacy, the knowledge that they have positively impacted a young person fulfills the desire in many Mentors to want to "give back". - Access to training, coaching, and becoming part of a team.
